report from Qasr al-Aini Street

February 6, 2011

From an American woman who is a decades-long resident of Cairo:

“Lots more traffic on Kasr al-Aini this morning (though still without any traffic police directing the two ways, and still limited as the Tahrir end is still blocked, but traffic is jammed turning towards the Corniche past the French Kasr al-Aini hospital), many more shops are open, deliveries are being made to the groceries, lots of pedestrians along the street — in other words, though the heliocopter still circles overhead (starting about 9 am today), a much greater *semblance* of normalcy.”
