makeshift jail in Tahrir
February 3, 2011
A jail has been opened in Tahrir for captured provocateurs. I’m unable to capture and paste the photo I saw of it, but it looked like it might have been inside the gated entrance to one of the Tahrir Metro stops. (Speaking of which, no one has mentioned the Metro in all this but I assume it was shut down at the same time as the long-distance trains. Cairo has two Metro lines, and both run straight through Tahrir and its Sadat Metro Station.)
Nicholas Kristof, a New York Times Op-Ed columnist reported by Twitter from the square about 40 minutes ago: Small jail set up in Tahrir for thugs and infiltrators with weapons. Best organization I’ve seen in Egypt.
