from an American I know in Cairo

A woman in her 60’s who was trying to get to a foreigners’ protest:

“Dear all- the anti-foreign goon attacks are increasing. Were you able to get near Simon Bolivar? I walked within Gezira — when I got near Oct 6 bridge there were clearly govt goons around looking for trouble (one large guy had grabbed a British woman who was taking pictures, taken her passport, and was trying to push her into a car — a car on the road tried to rescue her but I don’t know what happened next as, after first trying to help, I realized I was likely to be the next target and quickly left)); and the clusters of guys on Qasr el-Nil were also a deterrent. I was there at about 2:30-3 pm (not planning to cross, I might add, especially as I was alone.)”
