clearing the decks

December 22, 2010

It’s nice that some loose ends are being tied up as the year comes to a close.

*The Speculative Turn will be out very soon.

*Unexpectedly, a three-year-old book chapter was finally published today, on Paul Virilio and the U.S. Marine Corps. (The latter is not meant flippantly. I take very seriously their 1989 article on “4th Generation Warfare,” which looks a lot like the post-2001 world.)

*I finally pulled the plug on three article commitments that seemed to be going nowhere, with no news from the editors in a year or more.

*There’s another I’d like to pull the plug on, because it’s not on the publisher’s website and the editor never answers my questions on it, but I believe it’s sort of in press, so the plug cannot be pulled.

Editors sometimes have a lot on their plate, so they can’t always be blamed for lateness. I’ve forgotten things myself. But it feels better to focus on live projects and not be committed to half-living ones.
