random events of the day

Tried to punch holes in a stack of documents that was too large. With all that force my hand slipped from the puncher and into one of the open rings on the binder, tearing a pretty good hole in the base of my left hand. Whenever those sorts of things happen, we all know the remarkable fact that there is a numb shock for a couple of seconds when you can see that you hurt yourself pretty badly, and know that an incredible pain is about to hit you, and then in short order it does. That split-second of waiting for the pain to hit is always the biggest trauma of such events, sort of like watching the tsunami roll in towards you and knowing there’s nothing in the world that can stop it.
My planned late January trip had to be changed due to low-level disorder in the country I planned to visit. Safety was unlikely to be an issue, but big delays in leaving that country seemed possible, and I can’t miss the first week of next semester; too much going on.
Instead, I’ll be returning to India, which is never a bad idea. I’ll make an effort to see new places there, however. It will be my fourth trip to that endlessly fascinating country.
