sandstorm

December 11, 2010

I came out to campus on a Saturday to catch up on some work, and the sandstorm is going out here. That’s usually a March/early April phenomenon.

You know a sandstorm through three features:

1. low visibility
2. wind
3. a gritty texture in your mouth

These features are needed to identify it, because it doesn’t usually look as dramatic as in Lawrence of Arabia and other such films. The “sand” is often more like dust, and hence invisible up close.
