in Claremont

Arrived a little while ago, talking Cairo with Jeff McClenahan who will come to AUC next year. Ian and Levi are coming up later in Ian’s car. Conference begins tonight with an Isabelle Stengers keynote and a Donna Haraway response.

Claremont is less suburban and more smalltownish than I expected. Also, I am reminded of the stunning natural beauty of California. I was expecting a wasteland of strip malls enroute, but it was beautiful mountain scenery the whole 50 miles.

Even the San Fernando Valley is beautiful. My first time through it. Usually I think of it as the place that poisoned contemporary American English with like like like like like like like and similar quirks.
