American breakfasts

December 2, 2010

That’s what I really miss most in Egypt… American breakfasts. So I’m making sure to take full advantage of them while here.

At this point you can get pretty good pancakes in Egypt. They’ve figured out how to do them reasonably well. The problem is that you only get the tiniest amount of maple syrup with the pancakes in Egyptian restaurants. There’s probably literally not one maple tree in all of Egypt (there aren’t many trees at all, and most of them are palms).

As a result, maple syrup is not an abundant commodity as in the USA and Canada, but a minor scarce luxury good.

UK breakfasts are good too, though a bit heavy on the toast for my tastes.

In this particular hotel, the restaurant is on the 17th floor and features a pretty stunning panoramic view of L.A.
