it’s one of my favorites too

Reader mail this morning:
“Also, I wanted to tell you that your essay, ‘Space, Time and Essence: An Object-Oriented Approach,’ [in Towards Speculative Realism] is probably my favorite single essay of yours that I have read thus far. It is captivating, dramatic, provocative, personal, inviting — for me, it’s perfect. A sheer joy to read.”
Thanks. It was one of the most fun to write, both philosophically and literarily.
The little girl Beatrice who appears in that essay is the daughter of Peter Erdélyi of ANTHEM blog fame (and the driving force behind The Prince and the Wolf). Beatrice is a hilarious young philosopher. If you go to Bournemouth for a visit, she will also dress you in strange costumes. I ended up dressed as a flashy character named “Gunga Jay” (some rapper ought to use that name), though I can’t post those photos here or I’d never be able to live it down.
Maybe I should start saying this when being introduced to people at conferences: “You can call me Gunga Jay.”
