In Praise of the Moon
The theme might sound ridiculous, but we usually take the moon for granted, and quite aside from its tidal effects it is a major geographical marker that we notice not infrequently. These sorts of basic structural constants of the world as we know it will always present good topics for written reflection.
In the 11th century Avicenna wrote a treatise called On Cinnamon, or something of the sort. It is difficult to find similar topics in philosophy today without sounding affectedly droll. But no one could deny the worthiness of the moon, which towers above humans both spatially and temporally.
