Bill Simmons has season tickets for the L.A. Clippers (presumably because, as a Celtics fan, he can’t bring himself to buy Lakers tickets).

Anyway, American fans among my readers all know the pathetic, even cursed history of the L.A. Clippers franchise. And the following says it all. Simmons asked his young daughter (she must be 6 or 7) to come with him to one of the games last winter, and here was her response:

“I don’t want to go; it makes me sad.”

The famed mathematician, who coined the term “fractal,” has DIED AT AGE 85 of pancreatic cancer.

In the NY TIMES. Philosophy at Middlesex gets a brief mention as part of the overall deplorable landscape: an 80% cut in funding for teaching, and what looks to be a 25% cut in research.
