He raises some good points here in the context of WRITING ADVICE.

I especially agree with the “avoid distractions” part. It’s almost essential to turn off email while writing, or you will be tempted to go check your inbox every time you hear a ping.

But having a web browser open is even worse, since you can always find an excuse to click a link somewhere, and that might lead to 12 more clicks. Never does time fly away for nothing like it does when one is randomly surfing. An hour dissolves into nothingness when you do that without your even noticing.
