Cairo and AUC on CNN

September 30, 2010

Here is a CNN SPECIAL REPORT ON CAIRO’S SATELLITE CITIES. There’s a lot of nice footage here of both Cairo and the new American University campus where I work. Two of my colleagues are also interviewed, including a fairly extensive conversation with Richard Tutwiler of AUC’s Desert Development Center (he’s the new Chair of the Senate, and I work with him quite a bit). And incidentally, the Desert Development Center grows the world’s best grapefruit, in my opinion: it’s perfect every time.

I wouldn’t disagree with anything said in the report. Cairo faces a major population and water resources challenge. It’s too crowded and polluted in the center of the city (though I continue to live there anyway, for reasons of excitement).
