tenure track job here at AUC

September 27, 2010

All right, one more final post from the old computer… We are running another job search, this time for one tenure-track position rather than for the postdoctoral fellowships like this July.

Key passage: “AOS: Open, AOC: History of Philosophy. Applicants with strong records of interest and achievement in Ancient or Islamic philosophy are especially encouraged to apply.”

Yes, the AOS is open. As for the AOC, we’re basically a pluralist department with a lot of weight on the continental side, and we’re not unhappy with that general program; that’s what “History of Philosophy” is code for, as you would have guessed anyway.

As for the Ancient or Islamic philosophy part, we’re simply always interested in both of those, Islamic in particular (for obvious reasons). That doesn’t mean someone in one of those areas will get the job, it just means we want to catch their eye in case the right person in one of those fields comes along. It’ll be a “best available person” sort of search, I believe, though I’m not the search committee chair this time.

As I’ve said here many times on the blog, Cairo is a great place to be. The University takes care of everything but your work, so you can focus entirely on that.

Application deadline: November 10, and the search committee chair will be at the APA. Same guy who hired me, in fact. And same place (Boston).
