Cogburn on underrated philosophers

September 1, 2010

COGBURN PICKS UP where I left off yesterday. Underrated thinkers.

“I forget who told me that there is a performative contradiction concerning underrated philosophers. Take Collingwood for example, He is so widely considered to be underrated among philosophers of art now that in virtue of that he is in fact not underrated.”

Yes, and this happens famously in sports, with the NBA’s BEN WALLACE the most recent example of a player called “underrated” so many times that he actually became overrated.
