The Quadruple Object
August 23, 2010
A brief note on yesterday’s correcting of the proofs of The Quadruple Object. (It ought to be out in March or so, meaning that the French version will corner the market for about 4 months.)
I generally hate correcting proofs. It’s not at all the tedium that bothers me, but the experience of “How on earth could I have left a sentence that bad in the final manuscript?” There are always a few of those. Or, more commonly, the same key word repeated in 5 consecutive sentences, things of that sort. It can be a mortifying experience to read proofs. Yesterday, the fact that I was doing it on the iPad made it a little more fun than it generally is.
At present, when people know nothing about me and want to see all of my ideas quickly, they usually seem to read “On Vicarious Causation.” The Quadruple Object probably has a good chance to take over that role. It’s only 140-some pages, and with its 10 bite-sized chapters I suspect it’s a pretty easy read. Plus, it has nice diagrams. (Thanks to Michael Flower at Portland State.)
