Levi mentioned never having heard the origin of the DEVIL’S ADVOCATE, and many people haven’t. (I learned of it not from Wikipedia, but from Mill in On Liberty, where he discusses this briefly. Or at least I think that’s where it was; haven’t read that fine little book in awhile.)
