raspberries

August 10, 2010

Along with blueberries, raspberries are another of the very special things found on this planet. I just brought some home.

Last year a troll sneered that on this blog I just talk about all the things I like. I tried to figure out why that would bother him. The point seems to be that, for a long time, intellectual life has been about trying to find just the right twisted, sour, hyper-reflexive critical posture on any topic, rather than about simply expressing directly what you think about things in an interesting way.

I happen to think that this is very historically determined, just as I think the cool/hip is historically determined by critical transcendence: being above anything that happens to you or anyone else is the essence of the cool/hip, I think.

But this has all done its work, and the fields of the embittered sourpusses and the sterile hipsters have grown barren, and it’s time to bring some simplicity and sincerity back to the table in intellectual life.

In that spirit, here you have a photo closely resembling the raspberries I acquired.
