most cited in the humanities
July 30, 2010
A reader sent THIS LINK of most cited authors in the humanities (in books, at least). Foucault is an unsurprising #1, followed by Bourdieu and Derrida, with Latour at #10.
The reader asks if I know of any more up-to-date lists. Google Scholar actually works perfectly well and has plenty of credibility among university administrator types. I’ve never done a Google Scholar search by year, exactly, but have played with it both of our of curiosity and for the purposes of my own administrative post (in which I am now responsible for all of the research coming out of the American University of Cairo in all fields).
Notice that only one person on this list was born prior to 1800: Immanuel Kant. It’s still Kant’s world that we live in.
