Gratton on the Blue Angels
May 24, 2010
He confirms that, bizarrely enough, Chicago STILL HAS THE BLUE ANGELS FLY OVER THE CITY.
The reason why I think this is a horrible, horrible idea is best summed up in the mere title of a certain Wikipedia article. To wit:
2007 Blue Angels South Carolina crash
I am especially perturbed by the part that says: “There were eight injuries reported on the ground.” It might be expected that the consequences of a crash over downtown Chicago would be more severe than “eight injuries reported on the ground.”
Worst-case scenario: one or more Angels crash into either the Hancock Building or whatever the Sears Tower has been renamed these days, and we have our own homemade 9/11. How would such a thing be explained to the public?
I was already astonished that they were doing this in the 1990’s. But I can’t believe they’re still doing it post-9/11.
