the great thing about Wikipedia

May 22, 2010

Someone already edited the Middlesex article, and rightly so. You can now find the following (and no, it wasn’t I, but I’m glad someone did quick editing work):

“On 21 May 2010, Middlesex University suspended the Philosophy Department’s Director of Research, Professor Peter Osborne and Head of MA Programme, Professor Peter Hallward and several students pending an investigation into their involvement in the campaign to Save Middlesex Philosophy.”

Also, what do people think of this “investigation”? I don’t see much chance they’ll come out two weeks from now and say: “Our suspicions were groundless. Professors Hallward and Osborne are innocent, and may return to their duties. We appreciate their patience with the investigation.”

Obviously not. The investigators will be shocked, shocked at their discoveries about Hallward and Osborne’s devilish machinations. The “suspension pending investigation” is surely a set-up for termination. Think that’s just too much hubris even for these people? Well, I previously would have said the same about today’s events, or even late April’s events.
