Facebook out of control

May 13, 2010

I’m just about to boot Facebook from my life for good. The final straw is that I saw some of my personal wall posts to friends and family showing up as “related” on other Facebook pages over which I haven’t the least authority. This is totally out of control, and they should have realized that a backlash would brew if they weren’t careful. Here’s perhaps the most recent sign of a backlash:

“FACEBOOK USERS QUIT OVER PRIVACY”

I’ve actually quit Facebook temporarily a couple of times in the past. The reason in those cases was that too many friends were saying things like: “Sorry I haven’t written to you for 8 months, but I know all your news from Facebook anyway.”

Granted, we’re all fairly trapped in this morass now, because Google is even worse on privacy issues, and it’s getting harder to live without Google. But I think dropping Facebook is a good first step, and maybe Twitter next (I’m not good at Twitter anyway; have never been able to figure out what belongs in tweet format as opposed to all the other online tools).
