ceiling fans
May 12, 2010
It was one of those days that seemed to blow by too fast, but then I looked at what was accomplished and it was an awful lot.
I have a string of about 6 quick posts coming up, and then it’s back to work, since much remains to be done in the final 4 or 5 hours of the waking day. Another U.S. trip is coming up soon, barring another possible volcanic ash problem (Morocco and Turkey both had closures, and I’m flying through Europe this time anyway).
In this first post I want to speak briefly in praise of ceiling fans. Almost nothing is more pleasant than sleeping or napping under a ceiling fan, and it is fortunate that this apartment has one. Air conditioning has an annoying sound, and tends to cause head colds (forcing the use of blankets even in summer), and also requires doors to be shut and the outside world kept at bay.
Look at the superior benefits of ceiling fans. They keep you just as cool, but lack that refrigerated feel so the blankets can be put in storage till November. They are just as effective as mosquito protection, as long as you turn them up high enough. The sound is not as annoying. And best of all, you can keep the windows open. They’re probably also better for the environment, on the whole.
