Nina Power on universities
March 20, 2010
Here she is in INDIEOMA, talking about the crisis of universities.
I’ve been away from mainland USA academia for too long to know what it’s really like right now. But I do very much have the sense that the situation in the UK is a horrible crisis. Although I meet countless brilliant people in that system in all kinds of fields, they all seem to be unduly pressured and harassed by paperwork all the time. They are constantly under review and in danger of being axed (or at least that’s the sense I get), and also seem to be just scraping by financially in what is by any measure an extremely expensive country. (It’s a little better now for outsiders, but as of a few years ago every trip to London meant near-bankruptcy for the tourist.)
