the sin of gluttony

March 16, 2010

Apparently the Senate’s administrative assistant, Sally, complained to the caterers that their portions were too skimpy last time. If true (I don’t remember it that way for some reason) they certainly made up for it this time. The feast went beyond all proper bounds, and all 11 or so of us became perverse gluttons. But we can hardly be blamed– it was delicious! The caterers must have thought that their quality no less than their quantity had been challenged, judging from the even greater-than-usual delectability of the breakfast this morning.

The only disappointment was that the usual fruit salad dessert was replaced by some fairly lackluster whole apples today. The main course itself was absurdly good.

Unfortunately, I had promised to drop by Sally’s office a few hours later for a friendly chat. I say “unfortunately” because when I arrived, I found that she still had all the extra food in her office, and we ate even more of it. (She happens to be 5 months pregnant.) Hot tea with oasis mint accompanied the leftovers.

None of us will eat now for at least 2 days.
