speaking of Rod Beck
March 6, 2010
Many relief pitchers have been great characters, so ROD BECK wasn’t the only one.
But my favorite part of his career was when he was attempting a comeback and was playing minor league ball (AAA) for the Iowa Cubs in Des Moines. He lived in a motor home behind the stadium. Better yet, he let fans walk in and hang out with him. I never did it (I was in Egypt at the time) but people would knock on the door and say “hey Rod, can I use your bathroom?” and he would let them do it. Fans were also free to take cans of Coors Light from his refrigerator.
Here’s an article on BECK’S LIFE IN A MOTOR HOME IN DES MOINES.
Cocaine seems to have been a factor in his STUNNING EARLY DEATH in 2007.
