Fish on travel

February 8, 2010

Somehow I had missed Stanley Fish’s LUDICROUSLY BLAND AND CRANKY N.Y. TIMES ARTICLE ON TRAVEL last July in July 2008.

But the funny part is that Alphonso Lingis both read this article and commented on it. If I were trying to write an article to push Lingis’s anger buttons, I couldn’t do better than this effort by Fish.

Anyway, you can find Lingis on page 13 of the comments section:

“An individual holding the highest posts in academia, inordinately rich, reveals he has no interest in how other people live, is slothful, and prizes his comfort above all. Fortunately our educators are not all like that.”

(He also gives the wrong count for himself with 96 countries. He determined last week that it’s way, way over that total.)
