He’s right that I shouldn’t have said “causation vs. cognition” when discussing his position, because both for Levi are forms of translation. I should have said “direct relation” vs. “translation”, which is what I meant.
But where he and Shaviro do seem similar to me is that, while both are fans of the translational model of reality, they don’t see anything problematic about having direct relations, though they see such relations as immediately and automatically leading to a translation of some sort. And of course, if you don’t think direct relations are problematic, then you won’t have any need for vicarious causation.
