Paul Krugman was writing about how we somehow got through the whole first decade of the century without ever agreeing on what to call it. He suggests The Big Zero, which implies a (largely deserved) value judgment.
“The aughts” is too archaic and forced.
I prefer “the zips,” but it hasn’t caught on. That’s how I’m going to refer to the decade, starting a few days from now (“Back in the zips…”), until a better alternative is suggested.
