wish fulfillment
December 22, 2009
That was certainly a satisfying dream early this morning… I was lecturing somewhere. In the back of the room was someone famous for sneering at every lecture he’s ever attended, and he was sneering as usual as soon as I finished. Using gentle but sarcastic humor, I took him to pieces in a couple of sentences. The entire audience of hundreds turned to look at him, laughing. He made a quick and flustered escape through one of the back exits.
Not much distortion, translation, or reconfiguration in that wish: it’s a flat-out, genuine wish. Someone certainly ought to do it, though perhaps I’m not the best candidate for the job.
Dreams are rarely that directly satisfying.
