ever have this problem?

December 22, 2009

I’ve become a connoisseur of small home problems that require repairman visits, and it’s usually the same things over and over: plumbing issues, burned-out lights on high chandeliers, etc.

But this is a new one that started just yesterday… After about 10 seconds of the shower running, the flow of hot water starts increasing rapidly and soon becomes nearly hurricane-force. It’s actually pretty scary, especially given how good the water heating is in this place: it’s like an explosion of scalding water. Never seen anything like it.

The problem is apparently simple: an excess of pressure in the hot water heater. It will be fixed in a couple of days. But it was really weird the first time it happened.
