Socrates at his most lewd
December 13, 2009
If for some reason you’re interested in that side of Socrates, there are several places to go, with the obvious dialogues being Symposium and Phaedrus. But the final lines of the Charmides are eyebrow-raising even when taken out of context:
“Do you not resist me then, he said.”
“I shall not resist you then, I replied.”
It’s amazing that some of this stuff was copied with apparent faithfulness by the monks.
