speaking of late adoption

My best friend just told me he still doesn’t have a cell phone! I didn’t realize that (he lives in the USA, so I never try to call him, and wouldn’t have known).

And I didn’t even have my own first cell phone until January 2006, and then only because someone gave it to me as a gift. It wasn’t principled resistance to the technology, I just never understood the appeal of being able to be disturbed at any moment by anyone who happens to call. But of course now I can’t imagine living without one.
