best last lines

I’m not sure if my post on “The Pit and the Pendulum” was his inspiration for this, but PETER GRATTON LINKS US TO A LIST OF THE 100 BEST LAST LINES IN NOVELS.
On a quick glance (I may have missed one) I think my favorite of these 100 is the one from George Orwell’s 1984:
“He loved Big Brother.”
It’s hard to think of a last line more powerful and more futile at the same time.
