And consider the following addition to the scenario outlined in the previous post… Countries A and B share a border, and a shooting war breaks out.

Or one of the countries involved is, say, North Korea, and something really unhinged occurs as a result.

Or, there is a marked racial difference in the composition of Teams A and B and in the South African security forces firing on the crowd, etc. etc., so that an even uglier worldwide mood appears in the aftermath.

Or, the President of one of the countries is present at the match and happens to be shot by rioters on the way out as well.

None of this is likely ever to happen, of course. I’m just trying to imagine the absolute worst-case scenarios that are possible in connection with sports. There are some fairly bad ones.
