not a bad trip
December 3, 2009
The only thing bad about this trip was that, as a rule, someone with a cold should not be journeying in the Low Countries in late November. Belgium, especially, did make my cold worse, but even that is almost gone now.
Toledo certainly deserved a lot more than one night, but that’s all I had to spare on this purely accidental stop in Spain. The trip back to Madrid went smoothly, and I’m killing time with fresh orange juice left and right.
Window seats are usually the thing to get when flying home to Egypt. Since I’m always approaching Egypt from the north, and from pure empty sea, there’s never any doubt when it’s Egypt below. From seeing nothing at all for about an hour, you suddenly see either Alexandria (right side) or Port Said (left side). Then it’s all green mosque lighting, villages, and finally large delta settlements. When lucky, we even fly into Cairo right over Zamalek and I can pick out various familiar structures.
This time, however, I’m in “sick of being a tall guy scrunched in the window seat” mode, and chose the aisle.
