Holy Toledo

December 2, 2009

It really is an easier trip from Maastricht to Brussels than expected.

The nice Iberia woman seemed to mistag my luggage for Madrid rather than Cairo, but she turned out to be right… There is a one-night layover in Spain that I completely didn’t notice. Probably Tzuchien told me this or perhaps I even requested it without remembering.

In any case, I’ve been to Madrid plenty of times, but somehow have always missed Toledo. And it’s only an hour 30 minutes away from the capital by express train. How could I resist a night among the cathedrals, the ghosts of the Inquisition, and the specter of Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum”? My 2002 trip to Spain focused on Barcelona and then the South, and Toledo incredibly fell through the cracks. Travel opportunism is important.
