Farewell of Slavianka
November 30, 2009
Yes, this is the particular Russian song that’s been running through my head for days. Thanks to Paul for tracking it down.
The video is a bit silly, (no, it’s growing on me in a hurry, I just couldn’t take that AK-47 image very seriously at first) but the other options were looking either at a motionless Lenin or motionless sickle and hammer for about 2 minutes and 35 seconds.
My favorite part of the song is the voiceless bridge at around 1:40, which always makes me think of a Salvation Army band on steroids.
[ADDENDUM: Does anyone else remember footage of this song played very poorly and flatly by a 5-piece band as VLADIMIR ZHIRINOVSKY dismounted from a train? That was the same interview program, perhaps on 60 Minutes in the USA in around 1994, in which Zhirinovsky was asked whether he was a harmless clown or a dangerous clown. His response, with the richest smirk I have ever seen, was: “I am not clown.”]
