next year’s teaching

November 24, 2009

In fact, I may end up barely teaching at all next year, due to some big projects elsewhere in the University for which I may be needed. And so I didn’t end up attending today’s Department meeting where next year’s teaching assignments were discussed.

But a friend tells me I was assigned something tempting: “Recent Trends in Philosophy.” I was the one who originally proposed introducing that course, but most of the Department didn’t like my proposed title, which was “21st Century Philosophy.” (But a certain JAY LAMPERT AT GUELPH in Canada –never met the guy, but everyone who knows him seems to love him–has me on a syllabus of the same title. So I’m allowed to be taught in the class, but not teach it myself. Oh well…)

The course will be quite doable. I will probably use The Speculative Turn as the main text, and am planning to teach the course even if I have triple the administrative burden next year compared with this (and it may well happen).
