Now the soldiers are strapping on bullet-proof vests! Still no mob to be seen, and I wouldn’t expect one until some time after noon. (It is now 10:20 AM, just 5 hours since the stoning of the Embassy woke me up.)

Guns are not so prevalent in Egypt, though. So I’m not sure what the vests are for, unless they plan to fire rubber bullets themselves.

These guys aren’t joking around. They look serious and a bit worried.

What a shame, because this is just about the loveliest cool morning we’ve had since perhaps February. It would be a pleasure to sit out on this balcony with a pot of tea and some Leibniz, but right now my heart isn’t in it. A rare scene is unfolding below me.
