1-0 loss

November 18, 2009

It was a disappointing way to end an exciting week, but Algeria simply outplayed Egypt tonight. Egypt couldn’t get anything going. Good luck to Algeria on their first trip to the World Cup since 1986.

And in case I didn’t mention it, Graeme Wood (with whom I watched the match), who has travelled to as many places as Alphonso Lingis despite being nearly 50 years younger, has been singing the praises of Algiers.

In fact, he called it “a bigger Alexandria,” and you couldn’t possibly say anything more likely to make me go there. Visas can apparently be a bit tricky; they don’t just hand them out automatically as Egypt does. But I’ve got to give it a try after seeing a number of photos.
