Shaviro weighs in

November 9, 2009

Here’s a VERY HELPFUL POST BY SHAVIRO on his agreement and disagreement with my position.

For insight into the difference between fruitful and fruitless critique, look no further than the contrast between Shaviro’s intriguing criticisms and the useless sniping of the first three comments beneath his post.

And I’m afraid Bryan Klausmeyer has to be singled out for the single sloppiest misreading I have seen in years. Namely, he accuses me (“shame on Harman”) of stealing Hegel’s critique of the thing-in-itself and packaging it as my own.

Excuse me, but since when do I criticize the thing-in-itself?

Where on earth did that come from? “Shame on Obama for stealing Rush Limbaugh’s critique of government-sponsored health care and claiming it as his own.” That would be no more confusing and bizarre than what Klausmeyer just said about me.
