I still like this point

Nick makes it again, on Twitter:

nsrnicek: ‘everything is political’ – the ultimate excuse to change nothing! please debate 🙂

It also reminds me of my favorite part of Zizek’s recent interview, when he spoke about how many “political” statements are really just efforts to posture as morally superior while risking nothing.

And I agree with Zizek about something else too: I also hate the position of the “beautiful soul”. It somehow fits somewhere in K-Punk’s whole menagerie, but from the other direction. What all of these beasts have in common is that none of them put anything of their own at stake.

To repeat an earlier remark: arguing with a troll is like staking real money in a poker game against someone who is only using imaginary money (and who only agrees to play if a crowd is watching, and only if they can pretend to the crowd that they are using real money).

So, what is listening to the beautiful soul like, in poker terms? I’m still thinking about it. But it’s similar.
