Lévi-Strauss dies

November 3, 2009

I’ve been away for hours and am probably well behind the curve, but just noticed that Claude Lévi-Strauss has died at, what, 100 years of age? Somewhere around 100.

I’ve lost track of whether any of the older French thinkers are still alive. I can’t remember any, off the top of my head.

Just remembered, Julia Kristeva is of course still alive. And René Girard.

Michel Serres. All right, I guess there are plenty.

[NOTE: Yes, I’m aware that Badiou is still alive. I just saw him in late September. But I was thinking of one generation before Badiou. Of course, Kristeva’s even younger than Badiou, so I guess that breaks my own criterion.]
