“balloon boy” hoax

The notion that the case of the boy trapped in the balloon WAS PROBABLY A HOAX is not so surprising. And probably we all decided it was a hoax at the same moment– the “he was hiding in the attic” moment. And I’m not sure how we felt it, because little kids do hide in attics and fall asleep sometimes. But it somehow seemed a bit unconvincing in this case.

Yet the thing that shocks me most about the case is how they could entrust the safety of the entire scam to the discretion of a 6-year-old. It’s actually kind of funny that he blurted out a hint of the truth on TV, in front of his parents.
