But I should add that I’m in total agreement with Levi’s distaste for the “police realism” that one often finds among the eliminativists. There is a certain sadomasochistic undertone to some philosophical arguments that has a bloodcurdling effect over and above the arguments themselves. I’m with Levi on the jouissance question, and in the present instance that means: if the whole point of your philosophy is to strip others of their toys and illusions, then it’s not a good philosophy.
