remembered

September 4, 2009

OK, I remembered the two things I was going to say.

1. Lots of seventies music tonight; the dj knew his audience well. When you think of the 1970’s, three of the great campy bands are Queen, ABBA, and the Bee Gees. And it occurred to me that these may actually be three of the most meritorious bands of that decade, despite being the three where you are most expected to smirk and be above it all.

2. They say that it’s completely unpredictable which humans will flourish in disaster situations. Sometimes shy people emerge as heroes whereas “alpha” types cower, and so forth. Tonight, I realized consciously for the first time that the same is true of dancing. Some completely unexpected peoplke are dance floor stars. I won’t name any names, since they may find it insulting that I found them unexpected.

What’s the official name of that song “Upside down , boy you turn me… Inside out…”, etc. etc.? I think I may literally not have heard that song since it first came out, probably around 1979. That can be unnerving if you have sound/memory links as strong as mine, because I suddenly felt about 11 years old again when he played that one.
