MY MAIN QUESTION WITH THIS is whether larger creatures might try to eat these fish and thereby be harmed.

And for that reason, why make these robots look like fish physically rather than just giving them the same capacities? Just because it’s cute to make a fish lookalike? Or is there a more compelling reason?

But as a layperson I’m not really sure to what extent undersea creatures choose their cuisine visually, to what extent by smell, an to what extent by more unusual means. But it bothered me that the article said nothing about the consequences of these robot fish for other undersea life.
