new anthology of Kant’s sources
August 24, 2009
I just received an Amazon alert about this ANTHOLOGY OF BACKGROUND SOURCES FOR KAN’TS FIRST CRITIQUE. It might be of interest to some readers of this blog.
By the way, Brigitte Sassen is the same person who put together the very interesting collection of early reviews of the Critique of Pure Reason, which I greatly enjoyed several years ago (but which I can’t find on Amazon at the moment to link to it; not sure why). My take on those reviews is that it was interesting to see how most of them missed the point. Many of the reviewers pointed to genuine problems with this or that argument in Kant’s book, but in so doing they tended to dissolve the book’s importance amidst a confusing web of subtle objections. Only a few of the reviews, if memory serves, realized what a dramatic thing had just happened. It’s an interesting lesson in why arguments are not enough when reviewing a book. What is more important is to present the limits of a book, not its mistakes.
