my one gripe with P.K. Dick

I’d have to say that my one gripe with Dick is that all of his characters seem to be wisecracking smartasses. (But not in The Man in the High Castle, which may be why it’s my favorite one so far.)

At times you would almost think that the wisecracking smartass was the only available character type– men, women, children, androids. All of them have lippy words for every occasion. Then again, there are real people who think that this is the only way to act at all times, but only rarely do we meet five or six of them at once.
